Pak FIles Many people claim that using any pak is cheating and, from a certain point of view, it is true that you are modifying the game in a way that wasn't intended. However, in my opinion a pak which enhances the graphics, or corrects for graphics that can hardly be seen isn't really a cheat, especially when you consider that the vast majority of players out there are using some kind of pak. These paks only alter the graphics and sound and won't turn anyone into an amazing player, just a less frustrated one in my opinion. I use the top two paks, pak9 and pak8, but I've included a third, pak7, that I used when I was a HPB. Just install them all to your baseq2 directory and boot up Quake 2 to see the immediate difference. If you already have any other paks then either back them up or lower the number on them. Eg. Rename your pak9.pak as pak5.pak. As for Quake 3, well I don't use any so I have none to give you :). There's no point anyway with Pure servers demanding you have vanilla pak files. First up here are all mine then I'll include any relevant links to other people's useful paks.
Main File - Pak 9 (3.7 Mb) - Download The core of this pak is based on an original given to me by RailDen! over two years ago. I have added to it myself, using both files from the pak I had before and files I've discovered since. 1. Bright HUD and weapon symbols.
2. Three new crosshairs. 3. Bright white text bordered with black for easy visibility. Also coloured symbols for teamplay.

4. White rockets and luminous green grenades.
5. Altered athena/grunt/brianna skins to aid visibility. Many players use athena or brianna to try to gain an advantage because they are hard to see. This reverses the advantage.
6. Altered sounds for all weapons which help you to hear incoming fire. Railgun reload click (which you can hear on your opponent too, which is useful for timing that last second duck, hehe).
Small Explosion File - Pak 8 (35 Kb) - Download This pak was created by Che who no longer plays as far as I know. The small explosions not only aid visibility but also improve frames per second quite significantly in fire-fights. Some people call this a cheat but I think it's a pretty minor change to the game. I started using it when I was playing the game with a first generation graphics card and was desperate for a sustained 60fps. Anyway, enough of trying to justify myself, hehe, try it and judge for yourself!

HPB File - Pak 7 (9 Kb) - Download I cannot remember where I got this file. It's a hyperblaster laser remover to prevent you being lagged out if you're a HPB. A lot of unscrupulous LPB's out there will deliberately switch to the hyperblaster when facing a HPB! I always felt it was a benefit though I'm not sure it really works. Anything's worth a try though :).
