Q3DM7 - Temple of Retribution As a teamplay map this is probably the most popular id standard map, closely followed by Q3DM6. It's a solid map dominated by three main areas. Both rocket launcher points and the quad. In teamplay, the quad is replaced with the red armour and one rocket launcher is swapped for a quad.
The outside area, with the quad, is the crossroads of three important areas, the two rl's and the plasma gun. As such, it's very busy and the easily accessible railgun also makes this a very hazardous area, especially on a lpb filled server. Having said that, the pillars can be used to good effect to dodge rail fire and you can return rockets or plasma. Because the causeway is quite narrow, the railgunner often gets quite a lot of splash damage from these attacks, so he's not invulnerable.
Dropping down (making sure you don't land in the lava) offers a yellow armour and in the lower chamber there's a megahealth behind the slipgate.
The rocket launchers are the best all round weapons and, in free for all, you have a choice of two. The one on the left above is easier to get hold off and you have a lot of options once you have it. The one on the right is on a high up causeway. Beware of campers at the switch end of the causeway. Also you might get railed as you take it, by someone who's come in from the outside area.
Stepping out of the room there's a armour and health point, whilst pressing the switch leads you down to an underground section with a red armour. It's not easy for one player to dominate this map as there are two rocket launchers and because of this there's isn't a great deal of camping. Another aspect of this map that makes it so good is the fact that it is very free flowing and action takes place all over the map. Tips-wise, I'd have to recommend, as always, timing the quad using your game timer. Grab the armour in the underground area, above the railgun and near the shotgun. Also get hold of a plasma gun if you can, perhaps after getting the hidden megahealth, because there tend to be quite a lot of frenzied battles going on and you can mop up the injured with some plasma spray. Use the scenery where you can. The pillars outside, as mentioned, are easy to use and, if you're injured, the map has so many twisty corners that it's pretty easy to escape.
One thing you might not be aware of is that you can run along the very narrow inside ledge from the plasma gun which can be useful for surprise escapes or attacks on someone hogging the plasma gun. Just strafe jump onto it. |
