Q2DM8 - Warehouse

Deathmatch

Since getting ISDN this has certainly become one of my best maps because railing is so easy down the long corridors and there is such an abundance of extra slugs. From the top level you can look over and easily snipe at people down below. It's also easy to drop down for the rocket launcher from above. However, the best thing to do is to check for the spawn of a special item. This map is unusual in that three special items all spawn at exactly the same point! The secret room along from the railgun can hold either the red armour, the megahealth or the power shield. If you're timing these items it's important, obviously, to understand how these spawns work. If it's the red armour and you collect it then 20 seconds later one of the three will spawn randomly. If it's the megahealth and you collect it then 2 minutes later a random item will spawn. And finally if it's the power shield and you collect it then 1 minute later a random item will spawn. There are timers for all these events in my resources section.

The power shield is an amazing powerup and if you get it first you should actually be aiming not to die once during the whole match. You can repeatedly top up with cells and there are five cell packs on the map! There's also a tonne of armour so you can end up pretty much invincible. One thing to bear in mind is that the power shield won't switch on if you collect it without having cells. If so then collect some cells, select it in your inventory menu and power it up. The same thing happens if you run out of cells while using it.

The power shield is kind of a spoiler really because the player or players with it are so powerful. However, there are things you can do against the power-shielder. Personally I try to ensure that I collect every cell pack that I see. If I'm already topped up with cells then I fire my hyperblaster so I can pick up more. Secondly it's important to use the right weapon against the power-shielder. The BFG is a great weapon to use against him, but it's quite easy to avoid. Other than that you're looking at using the hyperblaster or super shotgun as preference weapons. The chainer is also excellent but you usually run out of bullets before the job is done. If you're a good railer then rail the bugger :) but you usually need to hit him three or four times to take him out.

Try to get the power shield yourself if possible to avoid all this trouble :).

There are no particular hotspots on the map because it's so large. The super shotgun and hyperblaster areas get a fair amount of traffic and are well worth visiting, but the main spot to go to is the central rocket launcher and chainer area. A rocket launcher with two rocket packs is the perfect assault weapon to take up to the railer and remove any persistant camper up there. The grenade launcher isn't particularly useful on this map in my opinion, mainly because it's large and as such there isn't much splash damage. Concentrate on more powerful weapons.

The bottom level is perhaps the busiest place on the map. I'm not sure why this is but there are always people fighting down there and you can usually time it so you take out weakened enemies. Maybe it's newer players waiting to go up the crates to the BFG, not sure really :).

Speaking of which :) the BFG is a long way away and I never go for it in FFA. You're better off sniping people with the railgun as they wander along the corridor, or pinching it off them as they jump down. Remember too that it's quicker to just rocket jump up to it if you really want it rather than going to slow way round.

Teamplay

This map is dominated by two items when played in matches, the power shield and the BFG. If you don't make an effort to cover both of these you'll suffer everywhere else on the map. Make sure that the team times the special items. I detailed how the timings work above. Share out cells with each other and make sure you have a bind to drop a power shield BEFORE the match :).

Positions-wise I would generally recommend two teams of two. Two cover the railgun, sniping down and making sure no enemies are running along the platform to the BFG. They are the ones who should be timing the special items most closely. It's vital too that they don't go jumping down at the first sign of a potential target. You must hold the top level at all costs.

The other team covers the hyperblaster and cells. One stays fixed in position, collecting all cells, the hyperblaster itself and if he has time he should rush for the super shotgun and/or the chainer. They other guy rides up the crates or rocket jumps to the BFG. It's almost impossible to time and be there for every one so it's advisable to tell your railer teammates when it's about to spawn again so they can cover it. When you get the BFG you can head back to your hyperblaster buddy who can load you up with cells. After that it's a case of going FFA.

Generally speaking I would avoid the bottom level altogether. There's nothing down there worth having except for the two big healths. Hold the top level strongly, get the special items and hoard all the cells so you maintain BFG control and limit the enemy if he does manage to get the power shield.
