Q2DM2 - Tokays Towers

Deathmatch

There are two main hotspots on this map. The first is at the bottom of the two lifts, the other in in the rocket launcher tower. If you have a good weapon then the two lifts area is a good place to get some frags. Players in the water are very vulnerable and can easily be railed or hit with rocket fire. Newly spawned players have a chance to duck into each lift but remember that you can fire up the lift when it's on its way up. Another common tactic when you see someone go up the BFG/RA lift is to climb up one of the two ladders and step onto the platform as shown in the first picture. From there you can fire rockets up to the entrance right at the top to meet him as he checks how far along the conveyor belt is. It usually works :).

You also need to go up that very same lift yourself so watch out for other players trying to hit you in the same way. Grab the Red Armour and either the BFG or Railgun (whichever has spawned). If you get the railgun then try to stay up high and do some sniping, perhaps over the rocket launcher area or down at the two lifts. If you get the BFG then there are two good shots to make. The first is to fire down at the rocket launcher. There are so many players dive bombing it that this is always a good bet. The other alternative is to jump down and fire into the water, right at the chaingun. If you target it correctly you can hit people in the water of all three towers. There are some cells for the BFG at the rocket launcher but there are no slugs anywhere else on the map so take your time over the shots if you can.

The rocket launcher area is a real melee of players. There's usually a camper at the top. They generally choose to stand in the right hand corner which is a bad place to stand imo. If I was camping I'd stand more centrally because they tend to get hit by a lot of splash damage when players who spot them fire up there. Getting the rocket launcher is very precarious but once you have it it's best to head up the lift and maybe go on a quad rampage if you've timed it right.

Always time the quad even if you aren't actively trying to get every one. It will help you prepare for other players getting it. From a design point of view the quad is well placed on this map because it's difficult to get out of the pool safely. Powerful items should always be difficult to get on a well designed map. A lot of players will spam grenades from up at the megahealth to try and get you as you come out. If you see the grenades then head up the lift in the water and back into the rocket launcher tower. Never jump right down from there. You can jump down to the machinegun and from there jump to the bottom level if you need to. However, if there are no grenades at the quad pool then you're definitely better off running to the super shotgun and switching to that. After the chaingun the super shotgun is easily the best quad weapon. Head back to a busy area and kick off.

That's about all there is to say about this map. Remember the megahealth but if you have a rocket launcher then rocket jump up to it rather than going by the slow lift route. If you do end up down at the grenade launcher then fire it towards the chaingun for some very likely kills before heading up the lift.

Teamplay

Teamplay on this map is dominated by the lifts. Essentially you need to have a fixed camper on the red armour lift and another fixed camper on the rocket launcher lift. The other two players, when they aren't on a quad run should concentrate on supplying these two with rockets and ensure they have a rocket launcher. If you keep the red armour guy tooled up he may very well keep the lift secure for the whole game. However, the lack of weapons up there means he's vulnerable if left alone.

The whole team should be timing the quad because the lift guys need to be ready to defend against an enemy assault if it's an enemy quad. Also, the rocket launcher lift guy is key in dominating and controlling the quad. At quad spawn he should move to cover the pool and provide cover or attack the enemy who tries to get out of the pool.

If you're in solid control then you may have a guy spare to hang around in the megahealth room, camping the lift and providing spam cover at quad time.

And, that's it really, it's a simple map to plan for but takes a lot of practice to coordinate the supplies to the campers and the quads.
