If you use a modem you'll find you develop a kind of obsession about improving your connection :). I'll put up useful programs to help here.

ISpeed - One of the most popular connection tweak programs available. It lets you adjust your MTU, MSS and various other settings which have an impact on your connection. Modem users should use an MTU of 576 and a MSS of 536. Check it out for more advice.

UOTrace - An excellent diagnostic utility for assessing ping performance to game servers and trace routing the connection to see where problems are occurring.

Optimizing - This site is devoted to giving you tips on improving your WIndows 98 connection. Highly recommended reading.

Speedguide - This site is aimed at improving broadband connections.

PPP Setup - A simple utility to update the key settings for improving your modem connection.
