^ Default Loss

I don't remember us defaulting a game in all the time I've been with the clan but tonight we did. We played WDB in a mess about game though which was good fun :). I didn't actually mail out details until the night before because I was at the XTC LAN, which perhaps didn't help.

On that note, I've updated my personal site with news of the XTC LAN that some of us attended this weekend - Find it here.

^ Barrys Grom DM3

We had arranged a couple of practice games for this map in the previous week because non of us had ever played it before. It's quite a solid map in my opinion because it isn't easy to lock down and the quad spawns in a very exposed position and it's easy to be picked off when swimming from the pool. An organised team can combat a quad oriented team by covering the railgun. This was what SC tried to do. In fact they accomplished this well and the railgun area was a definite no go area. From my pov they seemed to be using that corridor to regroup and rearm and because of their dominance here we never had much rail action. However, we were strong at the quad and Kaa took the vast majority. Since his ping was so poor I'd actually requested he just play a FFA role and since most FFA'ers love to quad whore this worked well for us. I got a couple of quads myself but since Kaa was so solid on it I concentrated more on the Red Armour and Rocket Launcher. The game was extremely close and SC pushed us to the limit. With only a couple of minutes to go they'd drawn level but a final couple of quad runs tipped the balance in our favour. Good game and well played all, especially since it was largely improvised on both teams :).

^ UKCCL Round 1

When we saw the draw for this we were reasonably confident of beating ADS, but things didn't go our way. We had two on quad, me and kD, one on Railgun, Warchild, and one on Rocket Launcher, SaBBaTH. On Q2DM3 ADS were clearly concentrating on the Rocket Launcher and the Railgun. I need to check with the others but from my position at the pipe/quad it appeared they had two players on each. I saw no evidence of them timing the quad at all and between myself and kD we took at least 90% of the quads. Usually dominance of the quad like this is enough to win the map easily but ADS' strength at the two best weapon positions meant they were well entrenched to be able to defend themselves against attack. They also picked up a lot of frags from our two players trying to retake their positions but going up 1 against 2.

However, the quad dominance was still the decisive factor and though it was close we were always in the lead. Next up was Q2DM8. We have practised this many times and our tactics are concentrated around the railgun in an attempt to get the power shield. However, it was news to me but the power shield was switched off. The server crashed and there was some confusion so we didn't have time to adjust tactics but our tactical play was simply dire. ADS concentrated solidly on the BFG, whereas we didn't go for it nearly enough. That was our downfall and ADS eventually drew away a massive lead that was too much to recover even when we found some improved form later in the game. ADS deserved the win no question about it. The sad thing was that their frag difference on Q2DM8 meant they had won Round 1 on aggregate and we were out of the Cup before we'd even begun.

^ New Hosting - Update your Bookmarks Please

As you can see, we've moved to Barrysworld. The www.clanmkc.org address now points to here if you want to continue using that url. There are a couple of reasons for moving. Firstly the move was prompted by Prophet leaving the clan. The old site was hosted on his personal webspace so it needed shifting. Secondly, Barrysworld will be offering some excellent services over the coming months and the hosting is of a high standard.

Please could all MKC members sort themselves out with a BW account. Even if you have no intention of using the dial-up it only takes a couple of minutes to sort and most of the services that are coming up, including access to the private area of the site, will *require* you to have an account. Yeah, they're forcing you into it in a way, but so what :). Hehe, I'm not the kind of guy to go around naming and shaming so for all the budding Sherlock Holmes's out there, here are those who *do* have an account: me, Kaa, Zipgun, kD and Spiritos ;).

^ Recruiting for LPB's

Just to remind people that we are still recruiting. The decision to go LPB-only was pretty much forced upon us as we would have needed at least 3 HPBs to stay in the next Mixed League, in my opinion. However, six LPB's is clearly not enough for our Free League exploits, as our recent game against SPKs (see below) demonstrated.

MKC is a great squad, well known in the Q2 community and widely regarded as a sound squad of players. Ask anyone ;). We are a very active clan and have twice weekly practices without fail, always against strong opposition like XTC, WW, SC, AMG and many others.

The fact that we're small is also a benefit because there's really no point joining some huge squad and then sitting on the subs bench after maybe having been wheeled out for the first week's game is there? ;).

Anyway, that's the hard sell over with. We're looking for decent people with decent LPB skills.

Come into #clanmkc most nights or Tuesday/Sunday around 9pm to definitely find us.

You can also mail me for a trial.

^ Spooks back from the Dead

Hehe, I should write for the Mirror or something with pun-skills like that. Oh yes. Ahem. This was our first game in the new Barrysworld League. The previous three were just warmup games to determine our league placing. Personally, I was happy with Division 2 as we did find it more than a little tough in our last season on UKCCL. The fact that we didn't get demoted was more down to fortune than achievement tbh. Still you need a bit of luck sometimes ;).

This match was plagued with problems and if it hadn't been for my stubborn determination to play rather than default it would have been wiser to default. The root of the problem stems from our now very compact squad, consisting of just 6 active players, myself, Kaa, kD, Warchild, SaBBaTH and Zipgun. We're all LPB now and are leaving the Mixed League as I've said in a previous update. Unfortunately connections let us down. Kaa's Cable connection is extremely erratic to the point where he's HPB one day and LPB the next. Tonight was an HPB day. By some unlucky chance Warchild's ISDN had also gone down and he had had to dial in on a modem, which he's not used to. So we started with a Mixed team line-up against a solid squad of LPBs.

I haven't seen SPKs playing DM for over a year but they seemed an excellent team. I'm not certain who they are now though or whether any of those players were in the SPKs line-up a year ago. To me, as a sometime RA2 player, it looked like an RA2 squad, with RA2 vets Mojo and Teaser in there :).

Anyway, well played to 'em and hopefully our connection won't let us down next week when we play Grom_dm3 for the first time in competitive play.

^ New StarKiller Demo Series

StarKiller is well known in the clan for being a demo hoarder and he's now going to release some of his best demos on our site. Check out his new page, featuring two great demos. One a classic Memento Mori match from Shub's pov, the other a comedy demo of Nimrod cleaning up a FFA server with grenades alone. Check it out :).

^ Hammer Time

And so we've reached the end of another season, by far the hardest we've played. The final placings are yet to be confirmed so I will hold off on making any guesses, suffice to say that we stay up in both leagues. However, as I've mentioned in a previous post, we will be withdrawing from the Mixed League as we won't have any active HPB's left soon.

The week begain with a match against AMG. Our place in Division 1 was already secured by having beaten SC early in the season but we still really wanted to win this match. We'd put in some time on Hammer, having practised with more than one clan so we were happy with our tactics going into the match. However, we'd also practised with AMG in the past and knew they could beat us. On the day though we gave them a very tough match and they only won by 6 frags. 6 frags or 1 frag though, it was still a loss which is a shame, but it was good that the last game we will play in the Mixed League was such a close fought one. If I can just wheel out an excuse for a second, ;), it would be that Kaa's connection was terrible and on my demo you can clearly see him running into a wall :). WP to us and to AMG for an axciting game.

Click here for my POV demo.

On the Wednesday we had the Free League game. We've now shifted one of our practice sessions to Tuesday so that we can practice directly for this game, which we haven't been doing before the other games. Some quality games against XTC must have paid off because we won this tough game against DS. Early in the match we had drawn a large lead of about 40-odd to 20 but DS fought back well, getting withint 6/7 frags with a few minutes to go. Thankfully we held it together and got the result in the end. Well played all.
