^ Minos Is No More :~( Minos had started getting very unstable and has apparently shut down for good. This is very sad as it's been mine and many other peoples' favourite server for a couple of years. Many a night I've played some of the best players around on Minos. Some people are quite disparaging of Weaponstay but in my opinion it gives you a great action-packed game and you have to have your wits about you throughout. The Minos team aren't going to set up again so we need a new Weaponstay server. I've started a thread in the Barrysworld Game Servers forum requesting one. Add your support below if you want one too. If enough people show support Barrysworld will be happy to set one up :). http://forums.barrysworld.com/showthread.php?threadid=5831 ^ REViLLA - 28th October 2000
^ You Wait 11 November is now the date when I will get my ISDN. When I initially rang up the BT "agent", as they call themselves, he gave me a date of 27 October when an engineer would call. Apparently he shouldn't have done that, he should have waited for the result of the survey before giving me a date. Ah well, I've coped with a modem for two years, another two weeks won't hurt ;). Hopefully the UKCCL FFA League won't start before then because I put myself down as an LPB, hehe. ^ REViLLA - 27th October 2000
^ Dull Week Not much happening this week. We get two defaults in the UKCCL, PK in the Mixed and LE in the Free. There is no news on the Barrysworld site, nor have the scores been updated beyond week one. We won two out of three games though, so I imagine we will get a decent placing. Prophet managed to find the following snippet tucked away on a forum...
PS. Zipgun has updated his info, to be found on the Members page. ^ REViLLA - 24th October 2000
^ Unreal Tournament Squad Folds
As one of the regulars since joining the clan back in March I'll certainly miss playing UT with MKC. The practice sessions in particular were the most fun of any practices I've played for any game. Cheers to Spiritos for running the squad. ^ REViLLA - 19th October 2000
^ Last Season in UKCCL Mixed League At the end of the last season we had no HPB worries at all. kD, Kaa, REViLLA, DocGonzo, StarKiller, Toadkilla. Six players. Before the start of the new season, though, kD and Kaa became LPB's and Doc and StarKiller went inactive leaving just two, myself and Toadkilla. Toadkilla has subsequently gone to university which has left just me. Kaa's been forced to play on his modem each week just so we can field a squad but that can't continue. I've also taken the decision this week to finally abandon my modem and get ISDN installed, which I should hopefully have by the end of the month, as long as there are no technical issues :). With no HPB's it's pretty obvious we need to withdraw from the league. This will be a great shame given all the effort in finally reaching Division 1 and then quiting after our first season. We will obviously continue in the both the UKCCL and the Barrysworld leagues. Despite a poor run of results recently we wouldn't have been demoted from the Mixed, nor will we be demoted from the Free League. We should also get a decent initial placing in the Barrys Free league thanks to winning 2/3 matches. ^ REViLLA - 19th October 2000
^ Win over Rv Three matches played this week, one win, and two losses. I'll put this news piece at the top seeing as it's a win though ;). We didn't know what to expect from Rv. On the one hand they were one of the best clans in the country a few months ago, but on the other hand they've been out of action for a while. The map was Q2DM5, which is, by its nature, dominated by the quad and the red armour. We got off to a flying start, securing almost all the quads and holding firm in the Red Armour room. There appeared no way back for Rv as our lead stretched into double figures. Eventually though they managed to organise some decent counter-attacks and they were clawing back the score as the clock ran down. A very good result for us, and particular mention to Kaa for an excellent performance getting almost every quad. Click here for my spectator demo. Also, I've uploaded Zipgun's POV demo of our close game against WW. Find it on the matches page. Apparently my Chasecam cut short at the end! Soz about that.

^ Double Whammy from =Mr= On Monday we faced =Mr= on The Frag Pipe. Tactics that had been so successful in practice unfortunately fell apart mainly due to some excellent railgun domination by =Mr=, which caused problems elsewhere on the map. We were also poor at getting the quad, to be honest, fumbling around in the alcove whilst =Mr= were merrily riding along the conveyor from their rail dominated balcony.
In Wednesday's match we fared somewhat better, though not an awful lot. We got all the invulnerabilities and about half the quads but the quadsters tended to die before doing significant damage to the opposition. Could have been better, but these weren't exactly chumps we were up against ;).
Click here for a chasecam demo of the match. ^ REViLLA - 19th October 2000
^ CwF - A Victory Yes, that's right, no need for a double-take, we won a match this week, against CwF. This isn't the UK clan Cows with Fluff, but rather a German clan called Clan without Frags apparently. The match had been rescheduled from Monday, them coming in our channel and asking for a reschedule which is OK by Barrysworld rules. Then on Wednesday after our game with WW they came in and said "We're playing at 9pm". The thing was they hadn't made any arrangements with the Barrysworld admins or done anything in fact. I don't mind letting clans reschedule but I expect them to make all the arrangements if they do.
Anyway, eventually, at half nine, we had a server and two admins to watch our game. The game went very well, with our Quad orientated tactics holding strong and destroying any chance they might have had at holding any other area of the map. The railing from Zipgun and Warchild, in particular, was superb, but it was the teamwork that won it, everyone being co-ordinated for Quad spawns. So, we won and that was that, we went back to irc. They then came in and demanded to see some demos of Zipgun and Warchild, following that up with accusations of us botting. We then heard they were leaving the league over it.It's sad when a clan can't take a defeat. We've lost a lot of matches recently but at least we know how to lose with a bit of grace and just a smidgeon of class. Here's a spectator demo from my POV. ^ REViLLA - 14th October 2000
^ Brilliant Game versus the Wary Wolves We practised with WW on Sunday, which is quite an unusual thing to do I suppose but, consumate professional that I am, I had forgotten we were going to play them on UNRDM1, hehe. Doesn't matter though. In fact WW told us they'd snatched our tactics and used them against AMG to good effect. Nice to know someone benefited ! ;).
The game started without a hitch, the league seems to be being run really professionally now with up to date results, etc. Very good work. Anyway, Warchild is having some ping troubles at the moment so he appeared as a HPB even though he was on ISDN. The game kicked off with Zipgun getting a flurry of rails. I captured his great start on my spectator demo which you can download below. This good start gave us an early lead but it was an extremely close match. We held the lead for the vast part of the game bu never by more than 10 frags and WW drew level several times.
It was one of the best games I've seen in a long time and I thought the play from players on both teams was brilliant. It would have been great if the Gods of Quake had smiled down on us and given us a win, because we really worked hard for it, but our run of bad luck continues and we had the win snatched from under our noses. I highly recommend downloading this demo of the match, one of the closest you'll see. ^ REViLLA - 14th October 2000
^ Moebius Trip and a Half Where's the light at the end of the tunnel. I can't see it yet but it must be round the next corner... We suffered another loss tonight, this time at the hands of current Division 1 leaders, BS. They dominated with some excellent rail cover from down in the arena and some very effective attacks on the RL Room. I played terribly and, whilst I usually post my demo anyway, I'm not going to bother this time :). In the results stakes I think we're second to last, SC being last. Our game against CwF was put off because they couldn't field a team, and BW rules allow them to claim a reschedule.

^ MKC Are Recruiting We're definitely looking for a couple of talented HPB's and another LPB. Talent is obviously a pre-requisite given the level of competition you'll be exposed to, both in matches and in our regular practices. A decent attitude is also an essential ingredient for any MKC hopeful. If you wish to trial, please either come along to #clanmkc, ICQ me on 21345065 or e-mail me. ^ REViLLA - 7th October 2000
^ MKC Centenary Week (?) I don't really know whether it is week 100 or not to be honest, but the clan did form around October 1998 so it's gotta be pretty close ;). Some of us were only talking the other night in irc about how long ago it seems since those early days and how in the real world two years seems to fly by. At last, a real life advantage to playing Quake - it makes your life feel longer ;).
Somehow, even the passing of clans like UNR, say, seems like ages ago but it's only one year!. It's odd how slowly time seems to move in this virtual world. I almost feel like a middle-aged player in the world of Quake. There are some Granddads about who've been knocking about since Q2-test, and even some doddering Great-granddads who played Quakeworld or earlier games ;P. New players seem like the children (no disrespect hehe). They still have everything to learn, while the older and hopefully wiser players look on in bemusement as the new, hungry players take them over in the talent stakes.... Oops, going off on one of my tangents again there, supposed to be telling you about MKC :). This last week hasn't been a great one. We lost all the games we actually played and we've also lost a long-time and valued player, Luprachan. Games-wise it's very tough in these top division matches and you get some idea why so many clans get there and fold shortly after, it can be quite demoralising. But, it needn't be if you take the games in the right spirit and hopefully treat them as such. The worst that can happen is you get relegated. Really, there's not much chance of a clan like MKC beating the likes of CS or the newly arrived Ac, but it's the chance of it happening, as it did in the Season 9 Free Cup Semi-Finals against CS, that keeps clans going. Knowing that anything can happen is what makes it fun, even if, in your heart of hearts you expect to lose.... The UKCCL Mixed WW game was a disappointing one for us. The Edge isn't our worst map at the moment and we've made some reasonable progress in learning how to play it, but our attempt this time was partially thrwarted by me being disconnected mid-way through. For technical reasons I always have to reboot before I can reconnect to a server so it took around 8 minutes to get back there. We didn't have an HPB sub so we were out-numbered for a significant part of the match. The final gap in scores wasn't all that great, 26 frags, so I feel we would have made more of it if we'd had a sub.
Next up on the same night was BS (those of the strange dancing chicken) in the Barrysworld Free League. We've praccied with them a couple of times and know full well not to underestimate them, BS have improved an awful lot since a couple of seasons ago. Unfortunately, we let ourselves down with some abysmal teamplay and they schooled us pretty thoroughly. Another learning experience I suppose - hehe. On Wednesday, we got a default win over PK in the UKCCL's Free League. Defaults give you mixed feelings sometimes. On the one hand it's a win, but on the other it's boring, and a match you've prepared for and not played. I verge towards the latter. PK have actually retired from Q2 I believe so the clan with arguably the strongest tactics in the league has now gone. They've been top flight for many seasons and always seemed sound attitude-wise so it's a shame to see one of the last remaining "top" clans leave. ^ REViLLA - 7th October 2000
