^ UKCCL Mixed - Loss to SC

This was the final match of our Division 2 season, the final result next week will be a default win over EI. The result was quite vital because I'm guessing three will be promoted this season due to drop-outs from Division 1 (HIV/Rv/=Mr=). Winning would mean promotion and losing would mean middle of the table safeness :).

Before the match I didn't know much about SC to be honest but we took no chances and practiced the map very thoroughly. What's their name/website. Not sure - tell me and I'll link them. Anyway, The Hammer is a massive map and cannot be locked down. The sheer scale means there could always be someone bombing round the corner at you with a weapon.

Anyway, The Hammer is a massive map and cannot be locked down. The sheer scale means there could always be someone bombing round the corner at you with a weapon.

We'd practised a range of tactics, from positions around the map, to all concentrating on the central arena and eventually, for the game, a compromise between guarding the YA and the central arena, with the rail queen Moneypenny on, erm, rail :).

We got off to a poor start, managing to hold the YA most of the time but attacks were frequent from the main arena, which SC solidly dominated. It's difficult to hold the YA area because there are three main entrances leading in so you have to be very vigilant to spot them before you get a rocket/grenade in your face ;). Another thing I could do to practise offline sometime is rocket-jumping up to that sodding megahealth. I didn't dare risk it it's so high :).

Later in the game we made inroads into the central area and held both it and the YA for a time and took the lead very briefly, after a rail fest by Moneypenny (or so she says - hehe). Even with just two minutes to go the scores were still close at 67-64 to them but in the final minute they had taken the YA and we more or less just threw ourselves at them in the vain hope of pinching it. It didn't happen though and SC deserved the win, especially since they suffered a couple of drops, though they had subs on of course. Good game to finish the season on. Even though we didn't win I was impressed with our selfless teamplay as you'll see from our demos.

It's difficult to say how this leaves us in the division because the scores aren't up to date. Get outta town ;). I have a feeling we're fourth behind SC, AMG and LE. Not sure though because we did beat AMG, and AMG beat SC. It's very hard to call, and playing Hammer tonight could have made some clans come unstuck.

Btw, SC, if you're somehow reading this, we're available for praccies Thursdays and Sundays at 9pm, #clanmkc.

Almost forgot, demo time - I did alright :) so here's mine: REViLLA POV Demo

Only other person to record was Moneypenny, who was also top fragger with some fine railing: Moneypenny POV Demo

^ UKCCL Q2 Modem League

Woohoo, after an impromptu game of CS on Sunday I nipped over to the UKCCL messageboard and there was a post by Nightstrike offering a place in DIvision 1 of the UKCCL Modem League to the first clan that replied. So I did within an hour and we got it. Well chuffed about this actually because we have loads of HPBs and we tend to praccy more too ;). Not sure of the details, think we're taking the spot =Mr= have just dumped so that means we have a match against CS on Thursday!!!!!!

^ UKCCL Mixed - Nail-biting win over AMG

I'll be honest, I thought AMG would probably win this map. Fact is we've played some praccies with them recently and they've won practically every one. Every one even? Hehe! Anyway, we'd had a brief praccy with C^ the night before so we were reasonably clued up on our tactics and the usual pre-match discussions in IRC sorted out the fine points ;). The final squad was Luprachan, Sativa, back to competitive play after a long, long, absence, and the HPBs myself and Docgonzo.

I always find that quad maps turn into a tale of who got the quads and what they managed to do with them so I'll tell it like that :). The match kicked off and AMG clearly got the best spawns :P, one AMG player capturing the invulnerability and [AMG]Gozza capturing the first Quad. Fortunately for us they didn't capitalise on this bonus and not much damage was done. After the first minute we were only 5-3 down. Sadly, it went downhill from there for us. [MKC]Luprachan managed to get the second quad courtesy of a jump on my head in my role as quad support :o) but AMG then proceeded to get the next 6 quads in a row which was devastating for us. After just five minutes we were already down 31-11. It looked like it was all over. In his comeback game, Sativa had had a poor start on the rail getting no frags at all and suffering several deaths (though he made up for it later - hehe). From my display it seemed like Doc was going grenade crazy trying to hold/take the rocket room, which is probably the toughest position on the map and I found myself bunny-hopping round the lower levels trying to time a run back to the quad to support Lupra and often finding AMG entrenched there.

However, in time for the 9th quad I had taken control of the pipe which is a pivotal role on this map. I had got hold of a hyperblaster and the railgun which are the weapons of choice for that position. I provided a quad step for Lupra and very kindly dropped my trusty hyper for Luprachan to go on a long-awaited quad rampage. I kept hold of the pipe and we followed that up with the next two quads. After this we'd made up a lot of the deficit and the score had drawn to a respectable 48-39 to AMG just after half-way through the match.

AMG then pulled themselves together and took the next two quads but didn't pull away in score, in fact we were catching up fast. I was the only one in the alcove ready for the 14th quad so I took it myself and supershotgunned our way into our first lead of the match at 60-59 with just 5 and a half minutes to go. After that we never got another quad, AMG taking all five remaining ones. I assume we must have held solid control of the other areas because their superb quad control didn't translate into frags, either that or we ran like the clappers :). I almost got one of the quads, sitting in the quad room itself as it spawned but then [AMG]Demon came leaping in heroically (hehe) with a 666 and there was little I could do, oh except die :).

One minute to go and the scores were very close, 81-75 to us. A quick suicide by me and a quad run by them and the score was 80-79 with 30 seconds remaining. It was unbelievably tense at this point. You tend to just stop thinking and start running around on impulse. I survived a point blank rail near the machinegun and dropped down to the GL and just kept running until the end :). With 15 seconds it was 81-81 and the final scuffles took us to 83-82. As the counter clicked over the last kill was in fact AMG's but this was immediately preceded by a suicide by them, so we almost had a two frag lead ;).

All in all an excellent result and one of which I'm certain the clan is very proud. AMG are a class act and we did very well to pull it off, especially given the fact they had all the 666s and 14/19 of the quads! Well played all and Man of the Match award has to go to Luprachan. We didn't get as many quads as we ought to have perhaps but AMG held the area so strongly he did very well not to die a lot more than he did and I think he must have used the quad better than they did when they got it - hehe. The final match we will play is next week against SC on The Hammer. EI, some might say the strongest competition in the division, have dropped out so the last week's game is automatically a default win. No one's sent me their demos of the match (hint hint) so it'll have to be mine. Download it here.

^ Hex for Captain

Omg, five updates in one day, I'm on a roll :). I'm pleased to announce that Hex has taken the reins and is now clan rep/captain for Quake 2. We've been desperately short of some leadership since Tribal went inactive so hopefully this should provide us with some much needed structure. The Hex administration is already firmly in place. We now have to cheer "Heil Hex!!!" as we enter #clanmkc. Whatever next? Seriously though, cheers for taking on the role.

^ New Members Section

Following a suggestion by Kaa I've redone the members section to list players by gametype. Makes it a bit easier to see what's what. I'm going to keep this up to date as per the clan's new regime and inactive players will be shown as such. So far only one player has any info and that's me :P. If you want your's adding please mail me - not all at once though please, I know what you're like :P.

^ graZe

Our MKC recruitment drive has attracted another player, this time a HPB, graZe. Welcome aboard m8!! He was formerly in clan, um...um...er...dunno. He told me about the time, oh how we laughed, the time when...um...um...bah...OK I'm lying I don't know anything about this guy but he seemed pretty cool in his trial and played a storming game in a praccy with C^ to get ready for The Frag Pipe :).

^ Defenders of Sherwood

Forgot to mention our loss last week in the Free League. DS caned us on The Warehouse. Check the results section for the damage and a screenshot ;0. In fact that's our final game in quite a painful Free League season. FED, Rv and HIV have all pulled out so our final two games are default wins....

^ Quiet isn't it

Not much been happening since the CS loss. Last week was a week off due to the Cup being finished off. And the first game this week was a default win over LGD. <Yawn yawn>.

There have been some arrivals and sadly a departure too. Clan MKC welcomes Warchild and Smashhit into the fold. Hope you both enjoy your time with the clan. Two in one out though as, in a shock move, Kaa has left the clan. There was screaming, there was sobbing, there were tantrums, there were fist-fights, but in the end we had to kick him out the doors head first :). Seriously though, thanks for all your work and effort and good luck m8. To all the clans out there, head hunt this guy!

Noticed tonight that Clan Stealth's site have only gone and put up a demo of the mauling they dished out to us last week. Not just a demo even but a fancy recam of Jecks railing our whole squad into the dirt. Ah well, spose I'd recam a demo myself if I played that well in a match :). Download CS^Mastakilla's recam here or go to CS' Site. It's a high quality recam with some fantastic Matrix-inspired freeze and pan shots - nice!

By the way, quick note to say that Caldazar has taken over the Quake 3 site from Spiritos and created a brand new one. Have a look here or use the link on the menu.
