05/07/00: Free League Week 4 vs Clan^Stealth [REViLLA]
Massacre
plain and simple. CS pretty much out-classed us on this map, even taking into
account their connection advantage. Not a lot to say about it really. They were
welled tooled up for most of the game and we were always on the run. As Kaa
said after the game:
[20:27] <[MKC]Kaa> any1 want my demo of running away a lot at high speed :))
.....
[20:38] <[MKC]Kaa> i was doing alright till they found my hiding spot ...fookers
That just about sums it up really. It was a case of damage limitation more than being serious contenders for taking control of the map. So, out of four games that's only one win, and that a default. We'll soldier on though :).

03/07/00: Mixed League Week 3 vs Lethal Enforcers [REViLLA]
What
a disappointment :(. This map has to be THE most annoying of the standard eight.
An utter lift camp fest. Let's see the roles. 1. RL Lift, 2. RA Lift, 3. MH
Lift and 4. Quad. Thrilling - hehe.
We'd put some work in on this, to be fair, practising with AMG who gave us a solid hammering the night before :). I'm assuming they dished out the same to SC tonight because they looked very solid indead. Anyway, we actually started very well and were leading for a while until our connection problems kicked in. Sounds like an excuse maybe, but then you don't usually have two players drop in a match. LE didn't seem to suffer at all so the confusion and players having to reconnect cost us several frags. I myself suffered a couple of patches of solid lag where I couldn't move for over 10 seconds. I honestly think we'd have won if the server had been kinder to us.
I had the new experience of a new lift to camp - the MH lift ;). MP played solidly on the RA lift, and LE-starlight commended her on the job after the match :). Luprachan, our quadster, dropped mid-way through, hence the lower score, and Dom was our sub, having to sub kD who overflowed before the match even began. Map control-wise it was very even. From my position I got the impression that LE held the RL lift better but the quads were split half and half and apparently we held the RA for most of the game as I've said.
We deserved a better result than this but that's the way the cookie crumbles sometimes. What this means league-wise is that we need to win the rest of our matches to go up. From practising with AMG we've discovered they'll be very solid opponents and it now looks like that result will decide our fate.....

30/06/00: Actively Recruiting [REViLLA]
![]() |
This could be you!!! MKC are now looking for good players to join our ranks. We're mainly looking for LPBs at the moment, but players of all connections are welcome to request a trial. We're predominantly a Quake 2 clan but we're branching out into Quake 3 and the clan also has a UT section. I myself play all three games, others play just one. Who knows what will be next, CS?, TF2?, RA3? The opportunities are there :). We currently reside in Division 1 of the UKCCL Free League, so we're looking for talented sorts to help out there and we're also in Division 2 of the Mixed League with great chances of promotion. [MKC]Hex is our (self)-nominated talent scout and designer of the stunning clan skins you see around the page, so send him a mail to request your trial. Did that sound like a job advert? Good ;). |

Yes, it's true, we have some points in the Free League :)
See below the scene of our momentous battle.

26/06/00: Mixed League Week 2 vs AbFab [REViLLA]
Bit
of a shame in a way this match. We'd put a lot of effort into founding some
solid tactics, playing the map interclan with AMG and intraclan together the
night before. We were clear on the way to play it. Unfortunately, and for my
part at least surprisingly, AbFab
could only field three players. In fact it looked as though they might need
to default at first with only two on the server.
The 95-21 scoreline pretty much speaks for itself anyway. With strong tactics and an extra man we couldn't lose. I was covering the side rocket launcher. I did well enough but AbFab eventually gave up attacking and I should probably have gone hunting more. Prophet and Kaa saw a lot more action in the centre of the map, Kaa in particular playing solidly with few deaths. The star again though is Moneypenny, with only two deaths and an awful lot of railing. Nice.
Also, plenty of respect to AbFab for not whinging once. They knew they had no chance really but kept on playing. Feels like a lot of wasted effort because we'd have won anyway but that's two wins out of two so far which is great progress. Bit different to our Free League campaign but hey!
Player Comments:
[22:29] <[MKC]Kaa> "kinda thought half way thru might be
diff if they had another man, heheh"
[22:28]
Inciteful stuff - hehe, not really taking the piss. OK, yes I am :))

23/06/00: Free League vs PK [REViLLA]
Another week, another Free League game, this time against the accomplished uber-strategists PK. In an interesting and imo welcome move by the UKCCL, the match was played on a custom map, The Hammer. I'd never played this one, and neither had anyone else, which was very apparent from our FFA stylee. PK, on the other hand, appeared to, *shock*, have looked at the map and prepared a battle plan ;). We're still sorting ourselves out at the moment so we hadn't prepared at all. In case you aren't familiar with the map, I wasn't, here it is:

Unfortunately, PK capitalised on our poor preparation and defeated us in a 130-62 drubbing. From the start they were consistently getting double the number of frags and never looked back. Most of the action centred around the main courtyard. PK held this well by guarding from up on the ledge and jumping in to clean up. Well played PK and credit on our team to Moneypenny who had the most respectable score :). No demos have been made available, funny that ;), except for Kaa's spectator demo, but I'm not going to upload it because of his over-creative camera work :).

23/06/00: Christening [REViLLA]
Domine sanctum excalibe I hereby christen this webspace :). Cheers to Prophet
for providing some new webspace which is both a lot quicker and has no pathetic
pop-up boxes. At last! Anyway, cheers again, especially for doing the donkey
work part of transferring over all the files. Seems great so far.

19/06/00: Mixed League vs WW [REViLLA]
Well,
after a couple of rather negative updates there's some good news at last, a
win over WW in the UKCCL Mixed league.
We'd practised the night before and had our tactics in place, so there were no last minute frantic tactics sessions in irc. Never a good way to start a game. My job was to defend the Hyperblaster Area and go for the BFG as well. Kaa was to provide cover for that role and scout round the chaingun and RL. The LPBs, Moneypenny and Luprachan would cover the railgun and power shield.
The game started well. From the early messages we all got good spawns, I personally got the Rocket Launcher so I was all set to take the Hyperblaster area. I held this area pretty solidly throughout the game, as you'll see if you check out my demo. I didn't manage to get every BFG religiously because you can spend the whole game riding up those damned crates :). Instead I usually had a BFG and kept topping it up. WW must have hated me, I think about 12 of those kills were BFG kills :). Still, there aren't many opportunities to use the BFG without being called a lamer so I tried to make up for it ;). I lag quite heavily on two separate occasions, I think WW are sporting enough not to kill me on the second occasion though so I was pretty lucky.
Elsewhere on the map, MP and Lup came under some heat at the railgun. Several WW players were tooled up with power shields, I remember at one point taking three BFG shots to rid Rainbow of his and kill him. At one point MP yelled out "All at rail!", but I was never really in that area to help much, except the odd shot after collecting the BFG. Kaa covered for me, as intended when I went for the BFG, but he came under some heat I think from rail snipers from above, when he was circuiting the chaingun and rocket launcher area.
The score looks reasonably close but I felt pretty comfortable right through the match, I never felt particularly that WW were about to take over. Maybe MP/Lup and Kaa feel differently, not sure. 78-50 is a great result anyway because this is the kind of map that anyone can win and WW actually beat CS on it the other week in the cup run. Like I say though, it can be very random.

17/06/00: Fallout [REViLLA]
Well, after that last kick-off update people came forward and said what they
were doing so we now have a clearer idea what's what. I've updated the members
page to reflect what people have said, if there are any mistakes please contact
me. I've shifted Widowmaker and Cesur to the inactive section because I've never
seen either of them in the three months I've been a clan member. GL and thanks
to those who've withdrawn from match play. Special thanks to Tribal, who's taking
a sabatical at the moment to concentrate on his programming, for all his work
in leading the Q2 team for many months.

14/06/00: UKCCL Pre-Season Free League Game versus
=Mr= [REViLLA]
Woop!
this was it, our inaugural Free League game. Erm, see something wrong with the
picture to the left. Mmmm yeah, there were only two LPBs, Prophet and Luprachan,
the same two LPBs from Monday.
As luck would have it, we had some bods online, me and kD ready for a UT game which had been cancelled due to poor net conditions and Kaa out of that seemingly rare thing - commitment to the clan, also turned up for the game.
Now being in a clan isn't like military conscription, it's a game and you play it because you enjoy it. If you don't enjoy it, fine you can stop playing. What isn't acceptable is simply letting other people waste time and effort because you can't be arsed to say what you're doing. A head in the sand attitude is no use to anyone I'm afraid.
I haven't been in the clan long so I can't judge how things used to be, but what I see now isn't a clan at all. There are some dedicated people who care. I mean, what reason did Kaa have to turn up other than because he cared about the clan? No HPBs should have been needed tonight. Mathematically we have a clan full of LPBs.
If you don't want to play - say so ffs. If you do - turn up. If you don't know then, er, stop sitting on the fence and be decisive. Declare yourselves ACTIVE or INACTIVE now please and stop wasting people's time.

12/06/00: UKCCL Pre-Season Game versus WW [REViLLA]
OK, I've decided to put copies of match reports in the news section, because
no one reads 'em otherwise ;). Here it is:
Now
they say a picture tells....um tells....what is it? "a thousand words"?
K, whatever, here's the screenshot ;).
Alright, this match doesn't count so I won't go into it too much. The point was to show we and they could field a team, and since there was an England match on, this appeared to be a big problem for a lot of the other clans in #ukcclq2 :). Sufficed to say our rustyness showed in the first half of the game and it took a good while to get going. We employed basic area control tactics of the standard areas, rl, ra, quad, etc. WW concentrated to good effect on the ra side of the map, rarely ventureing over to the rl at all. Obviously this left us exposed and we were under-manned for quad attacks.
Through quad domination and more focused area control WW were running away with it. They were 20-0 clear at one point. However, we pulled it together slightly. I managed to get a firm foothold in the RA room from about half way and got 80% of my kills from chaingunning. Communication wasn't spot on so I'm not certain how things went in the other areas :/. I do know we got a few quads, but overall only 20% max I'd say.
WW are a strong team, as I highlighted in my pre-season report :P. We'll be playing them on Q2DM8 next week so we need to work on things. Not too bad though in my opinion. First clan game in a month and we pull off 61-54 after a 20-0 losing start. Not all bad news.

11/06/00: Crystal Ball [REViLLA]
I've written a short Preview of Season
10 in the Matches section, which covers both the Free and Mixed leagues.
Might be nice to see how wrong one person can be by the end of the season. I
won't edit it as we go, oh no ;).

11/06/00: You've Come a Long Way Baby [REViLLA]
I've made a few minor changes to the site. Now that there are two leagues I
thought a Schedule might be useful. <sarcasm> This is also useful
because, by the lack of attendance and/or punctuality at practices, it would
appear that people seem to be getting the times confused somehow - times are
now clearly listed </sarcasm>. Seriously though, I know there haven't
been any official games so people haven't felt the need but we are Division
1 now and I don't want to see us hammered into the ground and utterly humiliated
for the lack of a couple of hours praccy. Seems like it's just been the HPBs
for the last month and usually just me and Kaa there on time and ready to play
- I've had exams and haven't missed one (hides failure slip) :). Other teams
will be practising like mad I'm sure. K, that'll do for the old naggin grandma
speak - hehe.

10/06/00: Unreal Tournament [REViLLA]
![]() |
OK just in case you only look at this news page, don't forget to go and check out Spiritos' updates for our Unreal Tournament exploits. All MKC'ers are welcome to have a go at this. At the moment the squad consists of me, Spiritos, Caldazar, kD and Incan. We could do with some extra players. Here are the three easy steps: 1. Get UT and Install :). 2. Get and install the latest 4.20 patch here. 3. Come to irc on Tuesday for praccy. The Reward? - Experience FPS bliss beyond your wildest dreams! mmmmk.

10/06/00: The Sloth Awakes from his Slumber [REViLLA]
<Yawn> I'm still sleepy. Might...just...climb back to my tree for a kip...No
go on I'll update :). In fact there hasn't been much to report of late. The
Q2 League finished and we haven't been involved in the Cup, the same cup we
we knocked out of back in April. Go figure. In fact it's been non-standard games
that have roused the most interest recently. RA2, UwT, a Quake 3 practice, but
no Quake 2 clan games.
But that's got to change now because the new tables have been released and MKC has been placed amongst the best on the scene in Division 1 of UKCCL Free League. Obviously enough, with the likes of FED, CS and Rv, this league is going to be incredibly competitive and should be good fun.
The Mixed team remains in Division 2 which sees some brand new opponents this season in the shape of WW, AbFab and LGD. Looking forward to this as well.
So, get Quake 2 booted up and start practising! Anyway, this site should spring into life a bit more now that the Quake 2 season is about to start again. Please remember to take your screenshots and demos for the site!

20/05/00: Season in Review
[REViLLA]
Lo, I'm going to do proper reports next season, but I've just done a short Review
of Season 9, so check it out if you can be arsed ;). I'm missing a couple
of screenshots unfortunately - the TR and SM games, so if anyone has them -
send me the jpegs :) (no tgas please - hehe).
Also, if anyone wants to contribute editorial or news or reports or comments, anything, please just mail me with it. It doesn't have to be massive or in depth or even grammatical - mentioning no names (hehe only kidding).
I'd take care of the editing and uploading side of things, just give me your material in text format if you want to. It would be nice to get people's opinions on matches or events up on the site.
I know that request will probably fall on deaf ears but I'm asking for a good reason. Clan sites are all too often just a monologue of one member when it should be a site for the whole clan.....come on.....you know it makes sense :).

14/05/00: Fourth in the UKCCL [REViLLA]
OK, that's nothing to shout about so I'll say it real quiet like - "We
were fourth :(". It was quite a tough season, starting off losing to TR
then getting a leathering off DS on tactics-heavy Q2DM2 late in the season.
All in all though a good season I'd say, which was completed nicely with a well
fought draw against LE (on UNRDM1 which we hadn't practised properly - course
they might not have either but hey!).
My exams are in two weeks, after that expect me to hammer this site :). I've already made some minor cosmetic changes to the main and news pages so far because the formatting was making it difficult to update. Hope you don't mind Spiritos ;). I *SO* hate that poncing pop-up box as well - jeez e-v-e-r-y frickin page.
Spiritos' excellent design will remain of course but I may tweak and rework some of the pages as I expand on them. For next season I also pledge* to write proper match reports.
I wish I wasn't doing exams to be honest. I've finished university so I had hoped never to do one again, but now I'm taking professional exams, which should last another few years. Bugger!
* Please note that all pledges express or inferred are subject to terms and conditions available by post from REViLLA.

14/04/00: Slowly but surely...
[REViLLA]
Pathetic updating so far but that's because I have a lot on with exams to take
in May. I'm having enough trouble stopping myself playing Quake :) OK, to briefly
summarise recent events, we made an early exit from both UKCCL Cups. We'd drawn
HIV in the HPB Cup and =Mr= in the Free Cup. Two Division 1 clans meant it was
a tough draw, but since we're aiming for a Division 1 place in the league, this
is the kind of standard we're well capable of competing with. Anyway, both matches
were close, winning one and losing one in both matches and only losing on a
slim frag difference. Ah well, next time, next time....
League progress continued this week with a match against sAn on our "home" map Q2DM6. I haven't played with MKC long, but even I've realised how important this map is to the clan. We practise it religiously so we shouldn't lose, and, no, we didn't :). Played all.
Another interesting piece of news from the UKCCL is the prospect of a Free league. This has been mentioned many times in the past and has always been rejected by Vince & Co. but with so many players going digital this league was inevitable really. As a modemer this is obviously academic, because I'd only end up playing if the LPBs were...like...dead :), but I still think it's good for the game, and with a majority of members having ISDN, MKC will certainly be in there at the forefront.
