Introduction

This is not a definitive list of clan sites, but merely some links to clan sites that I like. I've made the mistake of reviewing sites before and then the information goes out of date in no time so I'm going to put the date of each review from now on. In updating, I was sad to see that many clan sites had gone (Suicide Squad's was an old favourite) but that's the nature of clan sites I guess.

European Clans

Elders Clan

Quake 2 TDM Clan.

Elders Clan is unashamedly a clan for more senior or shall we say mature players :), and on the servers I've always found them to have great attitudes. This is the latest incarnation of their site and it is everything a clan site should be. The purpose of a clan site isn't just to mirror news you can find on other sites, it's to learn about their exploits and get to know the clan. This site succeeds in that easily.

The design is very attractive, very obviously a Q2 site and the sweeping stairs look is good and draws the eye down the page. I also like the mosaic effect in the top right leading into a useful range of links available on every page.

The site has clan-focused news, with match reports and screenshots, though these have dropped off as league activity in Q2 has declined. This is supported by a match page with demo links and a useful season summary. The members page is good too, with a short bio on every player. The download page is also one of the best I've seen with all the most useful programs for Q2. But another great feature is the EC-TV demos page, which is a set of seven recams. I know from experience that recams are rock hard to produce, so creating seven is a brilliant effort. Finally there are some pictures of their LAN and a couple of articles.

A lot of thought has gone into this site and it makes a genuine effort to be entertaining while at the same time being an excellent portal into the clan. Combining brilliant content with an attractive and simple design, this is one of the best clan sites as far as I'm concerned.

Unmatched

Quake 2/3 DM/RA2 clan.

This is everything a clan site should be. It has news on match results, demos, info on the players, player configs. All this is presented in a tidy, unfussy design. It's a German clan but you can choose between English and German text so there's no problem there. The demos themselves are very generous and there are loads to download. Given that this is one of the best clans in Europe the quality is brilliant too.

Phoenix Rising

BF1942 clan.

This clan is one of the oldest on the scene and they've always had great, well-updated sites. This latest version is simply gorgeous and I love the Phoenix graphic. P*R used to be a Quake 2 and 3 clan but now they seem to have gone BF1942-only so there's plenty of coverage of their matches along with other scene news and information on their old Quaking history. Wins the prize for prettiest site by far.

Massive Killing Capacity

RA3/CS clan.

MKC is my old clan, which I left when I retired from competitive play and went largely offline in November 2001. Now five years old, MKC are still going strong but with a line-up I no longer recognise, apart from Warchild, Nightmare and Dark Omen. It's a nice site but isn't updated as much as it used to be.
